If you miss small phones, a company called Enough is trying to bring one back. Its Enough Phone has a 5.3-inch screen and is close in size to the iPhone 13 mini, which Apple no longer makes. You can back it on Kickstarter now, but it is still a prototype and is not expected to ship until May 2027.
Why a small phone is news
Apple's smallest current iPhone has a 6.1-inch screen. The iPhone mini it used to sell was 5.4 inches. Rumors do not point to a new mini. Lifehacker notes that plenty of people still want a phone they can use with one hand, and Enough is aiming at them.
What the phone offers
Enough lists the phone at 133mm by 64mm, or about 5.24 by 2.52 inches, and under 12mm thick. That is a little bigger and thicker than the iPhone 13 mini. The planned specs include:
- A 1520 x 720 screen, less sharp than the iPhone 13 mini's 2340 x 1080
- 8GB of memory and 128GB of storage, with a microSD card slot
- A 50MP rear camera and a 32MP selfie camera
- 5G, Wi-Fi 6, eSIM and an optional physical SIM
The battery is 3,500 mAh and fully replaceable. The screws are made to open easily. Enough promises software support through 2032 and says the phone should last into the next decade.
Not an iPhone, and not only Android
The phone can run Android 17. Buyers can instead choose OdysseyOS, a minimalist system from SLEKE that removes Google's software. Enough says it is meant for intentional phone use, which may suit people who want a simpler phone. Neither option is iOS, so iPhone fans cannot get the Apple experience here.
Price and risk
The $399 Super Early Bird deal is sold out. The $449 Early Bird reward is still open. It includes a pre-installed glass screen protector, a case, a USB-C cable, a headphone adapter, a hex screwdriver and green Founders' Edition screws. Enough says the retail price will be $599, so backers save $150.
All specs are targets. Enough says final details may change slightly during testing. Backing means paying now and waiting until May 2027 for a phone that does not yet exist in final form.
Other small options
Apple fans have two choices. One is the iPhone 17e, the smallest iPhone Apple sells today. The other is a used or refurbished iPhone 13 mini, which is easy to find at a reasonable price. It runs the latest iOS but misses some newer features. Apple may end support by iOS 28 or iOS 29.
The takeawayThe Enough Phone is a rare small phone, but it is a prototype, so backing it at $449 means a wait until May 2027 and some risk.
