A new Android phone called the Enough Phone is trying to bring back the small phone. Its screen measures 5.3 inches. It is on Kickstarter for $499, with a final price estimated around $599. Phones are expected to ship in May 2027. Buyers choose between regular Android 17 and a restricted system built to cut distraction.
Why small phones are hard to find
Most phone screens now sit around 6.3 inches, like the iPhone 17. Apple stopped selling the iPhone Mini in 2023 because of poor sales. Sony ended its compact Xperia 5 series that year. Asus, a rare maker of compact Android phones, paused its mobile division early this year. Smaller companies are filling the gap, including Unihertz and Clicks, which plans a 4-inch keyboard phone called the Communicator in December.
Two ways to run it
The first option is Android 17, with access to all your usual apps. The second is OdysseyOS from Sleke, a company that sells refurbished Google Pixel phones running this system. It blocks social media, games, browsers, news and multimedia apps. It allows utility apps such as Uber, Spotify, banking, smart home and two-factor authentication.
Sleke curates the app store. You can request an app, but Sleke makes the final call. Beeper lets you answer chats from several apps in one place, and a Perplexity-powered search bar gives text answers. Switching between the two systems later is possible but not confirmed.
What is inside
- MediaTek Dimensity 7500 chip, 8 GB of memory and 128 GB of storage, plus microSD
- 5G, eSIM and NFC for contactless payments
- 50-megapixel Sony rear camera and a 32-megapixel selfie camera
- Removable battery of around 3,500 to 4,000 mAh in a 12 mm thick body
- No headphone jack, and it comes only in black
It works on T-Mobile. The company plans to get it certified on AT&T. It also sells its own mobile plan.
The risks
The team behind it is Austin Boer, Brennan Jordan and William Stults. They have no direct smartphone industry experience, though a few Sleke engineers do. The company promises updates until 2032. Most flagship Android makers pledge seven years.
This is a crowdfunding bet. Some specs are still being finalized, and camera quality and battery run time remain big unknowns.
The takeawayThe Enough Phone is a rare small Android option, but until reviews show how its camera and battery perform, backing it is a gamble.
