1Password is adding a feature called 1Password for Agents. It lets an AI agent log into your accounts to finish a task without the agent ever seeing or handling your password. You stay in charge, because the agent has to ask and you have to approve.
How it works
When an agent reaches a sign-in form, it first proves who it is to 1Password using a unique digital key. The app then sends you a notification saying which login it needs and why. If you approve, 1Password fills in the login details itself. The agent carries on with its task without having seen the password.
- Approval happens on your own device, much like a two-factor code.
- The agent does not get free access to all your connected accounts.
- 1Password says agents should not get permanent access to everything behind an account.
Which agents work with it
It is designed to work with Meta Muse, ChatGPT Work, Dots, Claude Duet, Grok Bot and Town. 1Password says more partners are working on support, including Browserbase, Browser Use, Dana, Instinct, Kernel, Perplexity, Ramp, Tomo and Wajo, with more to come.
What is not known yet
The material does not say what the feature costs, when it will reach everyone, or which 1Password plans include it. Anyone interested should check with 1Password before counting on it.
The takeawayIf you want an AI helper to log in for you, this approach lets you approve each sign-in without handing over a password.
